Product Overview
Reading low-frequency RFID tags directly to your computer has never been easier! The SparkFun RFID USB-C Reader provides an overhauled scanning solution for connecting ID Innovation's ID-12LA and ID-20LA reader modules. Updated with a CH340C USB-to-serial chip and a modern USB-C connection, this breakout board translates your module's output directly to your terminal program without any complex programming.
While most ID Innovations modules have an internal antenna, ID-3XX modules will likely require an external antenna to function. Users should consult with the module's datasheet before purchasing. Additionally, Mifare and ID-3XX models marked with an “MF” will not function with this board.
Streamlined RFID Integration
Instead of being locked into a single output, this version of our RFID USB Reader offers expanded configuration options to fit a wider variety of systems and operating environments.
- Multiple Output Formats: Easily switch between the default ASCII, Magnetic Emulation, and Wiegand26 output formats using the onboard MD1 and MD2 jumpers.
- Audio & Visual Confirmation: An integrated read LED and magnetic buzzer provide immediate feedback when a tag is successfully scanned.
- Customizable Feedback: If your project requires silent or stealth operation, simply adjust the LED or BUZZ solder jumpers to completely disable the indicators.
- Added Protection: Features a 5V/1A resettable fuse and ESD protection diodes on the USB data pins to keep your hardware safe from unexpected voltage spikes.
Plug, Scan, and Read
Getting started only takes a few minutes. Just drop your compatible RFID module into the 2mm headers, plug the USB-C cable into your computer, and open a terminal program set to 9600bps 8-N-1. Scanning a tag will instantly display its ID on your screen.
